Robert Pattinson plays rebel with a sulk

MONTREAL - The consensus is that Robert Pattinson has mastered the James Dean art of brooding as the sullen poster boy for the latest generation.

Pattinson's heartthrob status has been defined by his portrayal of the conflicted vampire-in-recovery Edward Cullen in the popular Twilight film series, based on the Stephenie Meyer novels.

There was Twilight in 2008, New Moon last year, and Eclipse is set for release, to a great deal of anticipation, on June 30. Breaking Dawn, the finale, is expected to be released as two movies over the next few years.

In other words, the British actor is committed to the Edward sulk for at least another few films. But that doesn't mean he's become self-entitled or satisfied with his accomplishments.

His latest effort to expand on his brooding horizons is Remember Me, which opens Friday. Pattinson plays Tyler, a rebellious young New Yorker who clashes with his overbearing father (Pierce Brosnan) in the aftermath of his brother's sudden death.

Only when Tyler meets the charming Ally (Emilie de Ravin) does he find some peace of mind and a reason to believe, which may be threatened by Ally's protective Manhattan cop dad (Chris Cooper).

To say that Pattinson as Tyler redefines James Dean's Rebel Without a Cause angst is not an exaggeration, although the actor expresses some reservations about the assessment.

"I think it's a fairly typical state to be in," Pattinson notes of his character's classic rebellious posturing. "And yes, I think there's that element, but I was also interested in the arrogant things about Tyler."

The good news for Pattinson is that he could protect the delicate tone and texture as a producer on the film. But he's hesitant to take credit.

"I'm kind of embarrassed about the producing thing, because I wasn't really acting like a proper producer," he confesses. "I only came on after filming to help make sure the product was the product we all wanted to make at the end."

Indeed, Remember Me is precious to him, so he wanted to ensure the project wasn't modified or diminished in the post-production phase.

"The way Tyler reacted to specific things seemed very relatable to me," Pattinson admits. "I hadn't seen a character like it in 100 scripts, so when it came available between filming New Moon and Eclipse, I went for it, because it seemed like a perfect fit."

He has lots of choices available to him, thanks to Twilight. Before Twilight, the London-born actor was introduced to the modelling world by his mother, who worked for an agency in London. He was successful as a teen and found time to get involved in a neighbourhood theatre group, while performing pop music as well.

Subsequently, a TV and movie agent liked what he saw, and signed Pattinson. As good fortune and timing would have it, Pattinson eventually won a high-profile cameo in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, portraying the doomed Cedric Diggory. Shortly after the release of that picture, he was being dubbed the next Jude Law.

But that's not why Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke selected Pattinson to play Edward opposite Kristen Stewart's Bella in Twilight.

"Their chemistry was instant," Hardwicke recalled just before the release of the first film. In fact, Stewart and Pattinson connected so convincingly, they have been linked romantically.

What Hardwicke didn't mention is that a determined Pattinson had to endure multiple auditions to beat out more than 5,000 other actors. He has that kind of drive.

Still, Pattinson says he never anticipated the overwhelming, and constricting, attention that arrived with his Twilight role. But he says he doesn't take roles "that are polar opposites of Edward Cullen," though he appreciates the change of pace.

Currently, he's enjoying his against-type performance in Bel Ami, an R-rated drama with a racy sex sequence, due in theatres next year.

"I think there's a kind of irony in Bel Ami, because a lot of the women are attracted to my character," Pattinson says, smiling ever so slightly, "and then he kind of screws them over and steals their money, which I think is quite funny compared to my Twilight character."

Le statut de beau gosse de Pattinson fut déterminé par son prtrait du vampire torturé by his Edward Cullen dans la célèbre saga Twilight , adaptée des romans de Stephenie Meyer.

Il y a eu Twilight en 2008, New Moon l'an dernier , et Eclipse qui va sortir , et qui suscité beaucoup d'anticipation . Breaking Dawn, l'épisode final ,se fera en 2 films qui devraient sortir dans les années à venir.

Bref l'acteur anglais est lié à Edward pour encore quelques films . Mais cela ne signifie ps qu'il s'est auto proclamé au sommet ou qu'il soit satisfé de ce qu'il a accompli.

Don dernier effort pour étendre ses horizons boudeurs effortc'est Remember Me, qui sort vendredi . Pattinson incarne Tyler, un jeune rebelle New Yorkais qui est en conflit avec son tyran de père (Pierce Brosnan) à la suite de la morte soudaine de son frère.

Ce n'est que lorsque Tyler rencontre la charmante Ally (Emilie de Ravin) retrouve une tranquilité d'esprit et qu'il trouve une raison de croire en la vie , mais cela pourrait être menacé par le père protecteur d' Ally's protective, un flic à Manhattan (Chris Cooper).

Dire que Pattinson en Tyler redéfinit la colère exprimée par James Dean dans Rebel Without a Cause n'est pas exagéré ,bien que l'acteur lui même émet quelques réserves à ce sujet.

"Je pense que c'est un état normal dans lequel se mettre ," dit Pattinson sur l'aspect rebelle de son personnage "Et oui , je pense qu'il y a ce côté là ,mais je suis aussi intéressé par l'aspect arrogant de Tyler."

La bonne nouvelle pour Pattinson c'est qu'il a pu protéger le ton délicat et la te"xture même du film en étant producteur exécutif du film. Mais il hésite à s'attribuer cela.

" Je suis assez embarrassé par cet aspect , car je n'ai pas agi comme un réel producteur ," confie t il . "je suis arrivé à la fin pour m'assurer que le produit final serait bien ce qu'on voulait"

En effet Remember Me est précieux pour lui , donc il voulait s'assurer qu'il ne soit ni modifié ni coupé en phase de post-production .

"la façon dont Tyler a réagi à certaines chose ça me parle " admet Pattinson . "Je n'ai pas vu un personnage comme lui dans 100 scripts, donc j'ai pu tourner entre New Moon et Eclipse j'ai sauté sur l'occasion car ça me semblait le moment opportun"

Il a de nombreux choix qui s'offrent à lui , grâce à Twilight.. Avant Twilight, l'acteur né à Londres fut introduit dans le monde de la mode par sa mère , qui travaillait dans une agence de Londres . Adolescent , il a eu du succès et a trouvé le temps de s'engager dans la troupe théâtrale de son quartier , tout en jouant de la musique

par conséquence un agent de la télévision a aimé ce qu'il a vu et a engagé Pattinson. Par chance et au bon moment , Pattinson a fait une apparition dans Harry Potter, incarné le condamné Cedric Diggory. Peu de temps après la sortie du film , on lui a donné le titre de prochain Jude Law.

Mais ce n'est pas pour cela que Catherine Hardwicke a choisi Pattinson pour incarner Edward avec Kristen Stewart en Bella dans Twilight.

"Leur alchimie fut instantanée ," se souvient Hardwickejuste avant la sortie du film Ien fait ils furent si convaincant qu'on a prêté une liaison amoureuse à Stewart et Pattinson .

Ce que Hardwicke a omis de dire c'est que Pattinson , déterminé , à fait de multiples auditions pour battre les 5,000 autres acteurs . Il avait cette énergie .

Pourtant Pattinson dit ne jamais avoir anticipé cette attention troublante et croissante suite à son rôle dans Twilight. Mais il dit ne pas choisir des rôles "qui sont à l'opposé d' Edward Cullen," bien qu'il apprécie le changement.

Actuellement , il apprécie son rôle à contre courant dans Bel Ami, un drame interdit au moins de 18 ans avec des séquences sexuelles sensuelles et qui sorrtira l'an prochain.

"C'est assez ironique Bel Ami, car des tas de femmes sont attirées par mon personnage,"dit Pattinson , souriant légérement , "et ensuite , il les laisse tomber et leur vole leur argent et c'est assez marrant comparé à mon personnage de Twilight ."

ouais mais le rated R aux US en France c'est bien souvent un moins de 12 ans à tout casser (aux US les films Twilight sont PG-13 - déconseillé au moins de 13 ans, faut le faire quand même )

bon alors wikipédia étant autant mon ami que Google. Le rated R ne veut pas dire film interdit au moins de 18 ans aux US mais : "R (restricted) : les mineurs (17 ans et moins) doivent être accompagnés d'un adulte"
